Today, thanks to the never ending battle we seem to be fighting with Mr. AC Conditioner, Ansley needed to be at the house waiting on the repair guy to show up, so I was able to take a little longer of a lunch and go pick Charlie up from his preschool that he goes to every Tuesday and Thursday. All the parents line their cars up and the teachers will bring the kids out and get them in their car seats for you. Quite nice!
So, due to a slight mix up in communication between me and Ansley (read – John got distracted by work while Ansley was asking him to pick up Charlie), I arrived at 12:30, and managed to be the very first car in line. After killing time for about 25 minutes, I see kids starting to come up to the waiting area in classes. Several classes with kids older than Charlie walked by and there was even one class with younger kids in it that went toddling by. The last class to show up was Charlie’s. I see kids his age start walking out the door, lead by one of his teachers, and it looks like quite an effort to corral them all. One teacher’s carrying a kid while holding hands with another. A couple of the kids start going off in different directions prompting another teacher to scramble after them. Most of the kids, though, seem to wander around behind the lead teacher, generally going in the right direction, but quite distracted (as 2 year olds often are).
Then, here comes Charlie. He walks out of the door with a serious expression on his face, quite obviously concentrating on something VERY important.
And then I see that He’s Marching.
Full on, knees coming above the waist, processional marching. He’s not focused on anything else around him but marching in line, and he stays right behind the first teacher the entire way across the path, a good 30 feet, each step as determined as the last. It was one of the cutest things ever. I’m not sure words can quite do it justice.
For those of you that know us, you also know that this comes, without question, 100% from Ansley. He may resemble me a bit, but he’s still got PLENTY of his Momma inside too.
And that’s a VERY good thing.
