The John Galt Football League: Week 1
Well – the Pirates of Danneskjold had a VERY rough debut this week. Up against the KC Money Barons, it wasn’t even close. At QB, Matt Ryan had a decent week for the Pirates, finishing with 229 yards passing and 2 TDs. At the flex WR/RB position, Ryan Grant also put up serviceable numbers with 61 rushing yards and 1 TD. Beyond that it was utter disaster. My two starting Running Backs (Brandon Jacobs and Steven Jackson) totaled 113 rushing yards – COMBINED! But that’s not the worst of it. My receivers, Braylon Edwards, Brandon Marshall and TE Owen Daniels, had a grand total of 83 yards receiving. 8…3… and Daniels had 44 of those! All total, the Pirates rung up 57 total points, the second lowest output for the entire league.
The Money Barons had 61 points – from Tony Romo and the Eagles Defense alone. Throw in stellar outings by Maurice Jones-Drew, Kevin Smith and Reggie Wayne and all total, they put up a league best 133 points in the first week. Like I said – a VERY rough debut. Next week Devin Hester comes off the bench, and I’ll think a bit about bringing in Derrick Ward for a RB. We’ll also see who’s available to pick up, and maybe the Pirate’s can live up to their namesake and pillage the Oppressors of Washington next week.
Elsewhere around the league – The Sedalia Sea Monkeys are going down to defeat against the Rearden Steelers, lead by the one man wrecking crew that is Adrian Peterson. Drew Brees and the Geekpress Generals have demolished the Fairport Diehards. As of this writing, the Patriots-Bills game is reaching the end of the 3rd Quarter, and barring a miserable game by Phillip Rivers in the nightcap, Dr. Ego Spengler looks to be on track to come from behind and overtake the BNS Brawlers, who currently lead by 4 points. In the closest game of the week, The Agents of Fortune, trailing by 2 points, trot out LT tonight to see if they can top the aforementioned Oppressors, who have Tight End Zach Miller going for them. Something tells me the Agents have the edge in that match up.
More to come as the Pirates of Danneskjold look to pick themselves off the mat and work to become competitive.
