Atlas Shrugged: Out of Stock at Amazon

One of the interesting effects of Obama’s election and the deepening financial crisis has been the surge in interest in Ayn Rand’s ideas, and in sales of Atlas Shrugged. As of this writing, Atlas is #1 in US Fiction and Literature, #6 in total Fiction and Literature and #16 overall. It’s been climbing for weeks, and is now selling at 3x faster of a pace than it did when it was released 50 years ago.

And now, it’s selling so fast that Amazon can’t keep it in stock.

Here’s a screen shot of Amazon tonight:

Rand references are popping up almost daily. Drudge linked to a story today about a potential movie version of Atlas. Rush gave a monologue on Tuesday that contains one of the most eloquent statements of Objectivist principles delivered by a non-Objectivist that I can recall. Business Week, today, published a debate on whether “The Economy needs Ayn Rand“, with Onkar Ghate of ARI arguing the pro side. And, as to be expected, the National Review continued a decades old practice of dishonestly representing her ideas with a “symposium” on Rand’s recent popularity.

These are just a few that spring to mind. There have also been innumerable TV and Radio appearances by Yaron Brook and others from the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights. Her ideas are clearly penetrating the culture in ways not seen previously, and they are needed now more than ever.

Visit from Aunt Gena & Uncle Wilson

Charlie’s Great-great aunt and uncle drove up from Florida for a visit. It was so great to see them!
Sidenote: I looked up kinship terminology to see if there is a more correct way of saying great-great aunt/uncle but there isn’t. And I found that people have actually taken the time to show family relationships in mathematical equations…shudder! Here are a couple of pics from our long lunch at Cracker Barrel:

Norcross to LaGrange to Norcross to LaGrange to…

Ever since my knee/ankle injuries earlier this year, I’ve been traveling to LaGrange a lot to get things done. More than one person has reacted like I was crazy for making the drive for such things as physical therapy, hair appointments, etc. But when I am in LaGrange I can (for the most part) get things done. I can leave Charlie with my parents and run errands, and even more importantly for me, I get to see some of my closest friends, which doesn’t happen as easily at home in Norcross. Both sets of Charlie’s grandparents are in LaGrange, and when they are available I love for him to get to visit with them. Life is so much easier when I’m there! Not that we don’t miss John…but he has had to work such long hours for a while that it gives him a chance to be at work late and not feel guilty that we’re home without him.

So until I can complete a trip to the grocery store/mall/Wal-mart without Charlie having a meltdown, or until I find people to help me at home, I will continue to be a “road warrior” and enjoy my time in LaGrange. Plus, I get to go out with Brooke, hang out late at night with Paisley, have playdates with Mary, eat Big Chic, Charlie Joseph’s and Jin Express…okay, those restaurants should be reason to stay AWAY from LaGrange if I don’t plan on gaining tons of weight!
