The Good and Funny

I love reading the good and funny things listed daily on Rational Jenn and The Little Things.? It has made me so much more aware of the good and funny things that are constantly happening and I want to share our goods and funnies!

And wouldn’t cha know it -? Charlie has just given me the most perfect reason to? get started? He woke up from his nap today and started saying sentences!!!!!!!!!? Am I dreaming?? He has kept me on my toes lately, using words that I didn’t realize he knew.? But SENTENCES????? I’m not talking about his toddler babbling either, although I? am usually? able to get the gist (gyst?) of what he’s communicating in that language.

While eating lunch, he asked for juice in his usual way…”You’s?”

I had to give him milk because we’re all out of juice.? He took a sip…and as clear as could be said, “I wanted juice.? You got milk.”? …..holy cow!!!!? You wouldn’t believe how fast I was out of that seat making sugar-free Kool-Aid and trying to decide if I had actually heard what I thought I heard.

Fast forward to right after lunch.? We’re sitting on the couch, throwing some of the little plastic balls from his ball pit, when he throws one to the floor and says, “I threw the ball on the floor.”

Hooray for my little talker!

The Financial Crisis

So – do you have 1 hour to spare?

If you do, and want to get your arms around what really caused the mess we’re in, go watch this lecture.

The speaker is John Allison, until recently the CEO of BB&T, a bank that has weathered this storm far better than most (not that they haven’t been impacted – they’ve had their share of difficulties too).

He is also a forceful advocate for Capitalism. As he points out, it’s simply irrational to call our current banking crisis a “crisis of capitalism” when the crisis is occurring in the sector of our economy that is the most heavily regulated and controlled. His is a much needed voice to counter the attacks on free markets that have been so much in vogue lately.

If you have the time, go watch the video – I promise you’ll be better informed as a result.

Welcome, from the other half

Now that each posts lists its author, the astute reader will soon discover that this blog has started out being much more “Ansley” than “John and Ansley”! I’m working to change that…

I’ll probably do more of the “issues” blogging on current events. I’ll let you see the world from my perspective (that should be read as “the correct perspective”). And when we disagree, I’m sure Ansley will chime in as well!

So – what about me?

I’m a father to a wonderful 18 month old son.

I’m a husband to an amazing wife

I’m an Objectivist

I’m a SQL Data Warehouse Developer

I’m a graduate of Georgia Tech (who went to school to be a Computer Science major, got fed up with CS and switched to Finance, graduated,? went to work and discovered that CS was what I should have been doing this whole time!)

I’m a HUGE sports fan

Specifically, of the Alabama Crimson Tide

I’m an avid reader

I’ve run two blogs in the past – neither of which made it past 3 months or so. 3rd time’s a charm!

And

I, also, grew up in LaGrange and married my high school sweetheart on July 26th, 2003 – What a coincidence!

TMHBAL

I’m starting a new acronym….TMHBAL…Throwing My Head Back And Laughing.? Because I do that a lot and LOL or LMAO or saying HAHA just doesn’t cut it.? And my friend, Graeme, described it so accurately: “it implies senility following a laughing spell.”

What a Trillion Dollars Looks Like

This is so amazing…One Trillion Dollars

Take 2

John and I are going to take another stab at our blog after it being down for a few weeks…

Hello again! We just spent a gorgeous Saturday sleeping in (John and Charlie), getting together with very good old friends (Ansley), playing on the playground and walking around the Forum. What a great day! Charlie has had a couple of difficult nights where he is either having nightmares, night terrors, or has been feeling really bad and can’t sleep. Whatever it is, we’re exhausted! It was so nice to have perfect weather so that we could get outdoors and get some fresh air instead of bumming around the house all day.
